Our Farm
Gumview is a 1000 acre property made up of gum-studded rolling hills and flood-irrigated flats. The Gumview Grazing flock consists of merino ewes mated to white suffolk rams which gives us a nice solid lamb. They graze on a diet of natural pastures and we have recently begun trialling multi-species pastures with a regenerative focus. We support our lambs with a trace element lick powder and supplement their diets with home-grown feed when needed.
The Future
Our hopes for Gumview are that we leave this land in an even better condition than when we found it. We aim to support it's diverse ecosystems and soil biology.
One way that we are doing this, is to support our local bees. Bees are vital to the farm, being especially critical for the pollination of crops. We team up with a beekeeper here on Gumview, as it mutually benefits both of us to have them thriving in our area. If we didn't have bees, the availability and diversity of fresh produce would decline substantially.
We also participate in the Trees for Life: Limestone Coast Paddock Tree Project. This initiative aims to help restore native trees to the South East which is in desperate need of revegetation. Paddock trees are such an Australian icon and are vital to wildlife, primary production and literally the air we breath. So far, we have planted forty Pink Gum and Blue Gum seedlings through this excellent initiative.
Being proud parents to two amazing children, we also feel that it is important for Gumview Grazing to support families within our community. We are proud contributors to The Nurtured Village Hampers. Each month, dedicated coordinators knock on a family's door with a car boot load full of donated goods in an effort to bring back the traditional village of support in early parenthood.
